Lorrie Brown
Lorrie Jo Brown is an economist in the Forecasting Division of the Washington State Office of Financial Management (OFM). She has been at OFM for 5 years, and was at the Department of Revenue for 20 years. Dr. Brown does special studies used by the governor's office, the legislature and other policy makers. She works primarily on tax issues but also health care, education and transportation issues. She has worked on numerous national studies including much of the analysis that is behind the "Marketplace Fairness Act" that recently passed in the US Senate. Dr. Brown's current projects include: 1) measuring the impacts of liquor privatization in Washington state on liquor demand, prices and tax evasion; 2) modeling downstream impacts on the public education system caused by achievement of K-12 and high school goals; and 3) forecasting the demographic make-up of the State of Washington's IT workforce. Dr. Brown spent most of the last summer leading the study: "The Distribution of Income, Wealth and Taxes across Washington Households", which she is presenting today.
